Students do not need to learn cadenzas.

 TRUMPET: This year’s trumpet solo has been erroneously reported as being out-of-print. This is not true. The solo is available directly from the publisher (Faber Music) and from some local dealers. Those unable to obtain the solo through their current dealer should seek alternative vendors. As long as a copy has been ordered, a photocopy may be used in the interim between ordering and arrival of the printed music. Only one photocopy per ordered piece of music is allowable and the copy MUST be destroyed when the original arrives. Photocopies will need to be replaced prior to the December audition date.

ALTO SAXOPHONE: In the fourth movement of the alto saxophone solo, the style of the movement indicates that the dotted eighth-sixteenth rhythm should be interpreted as the outer notes of an eighth note triplet. However, students will be credited in the audition for either interpretation as long as the interpretation of this rhythm is consistent and clearly intentional throughout the performance. In other words, it’s EITHER the dotted eighth-sixteenth OR the triplet interpretation, NOT a mixture of the two.

 CLARINET: In m. 27 of the clarinet solo part, there is a missing trill (G#-A) that is present in other editions and in this edition’s piano part. Students may add this trill; no penalty will be assessed for its inclusion or omission.

 MALLETS: Students auditioning on mallet percussion are reminded to prepare only the solo xylophone part. This part may be performed on xylophone or marimba.

 FLUTE: In the second movement, Arioso, measure 12, the F should be an F#.

 ALTO SAXOPHONE: In sections of the alto saxophone solo where no articulations are indicated, performers should apply characteristic and stylistically appropriate articulations that reflect the articulations indicated in similar passages within the solo.
