ACTIVITIES: District 7 offered a Professional Development Day at Penn Manor High School that included keynote speaker and string educator, Bob Phillips, and more than 15 clinicians in a full day of workshops from 8 AM to 3:30 PM. Clinicians included college instructors from Millersville, Messiah and West Chester, as well as many PMEA District 7 teachers and PMEA officers. More than 200 music educators and future music educators attended the day. Evaluations were extremely positive. This was our first event that was not held on a college campus. We were thrilled that Penn Manor offered their facilities for the day.
COMPLETED FESTS: Youth Band Fest was held on November 3 at James Buchanan Middle
School in the Tuscarora School District with host Keith R. Smith. Guest conductors
were Paul Grane (Greencastle/Antrim School District) and Dr. David Zerull
(Shenandoah University). Two bands participated in this event.
Middle School Song Fest was held on November 17 at Dover HS. The host was
Andy Apgar, Middle School instructor at Dove. The guest conductor was Bob
Drafall
from State College. Approximately 120 students attended.UPCOMING FESTS: Youth
String Fest on April 12 in Gettysburg and Elementary Song Fest on April 5
in Warwick School District.
SUMMER WORKSHOPS: Our three year experiment to offer summer workshops to our teachers has not proven to be well supported, so we are not scheduling an event the summer of 2008. We may resume this activity if future interest merits such.
