Monday, October 13, 2008, District 7 PMEA Professional Development Day will be at York College. The featured speaker is Denis DiBlasio, jazz educator from Rowen University in NJ and who just conducted the All - State Festival. He will be bringing his colleague, Dr. Rick Dammer, to share in the general session and two workshops held during the day. Also included will be a general session following lunch with Rich Victor on advocacy and current status of legislation affecting music educators. The day will begin by 8:30 AM (registration at 8 AM) and conclude by 3:30 PM. There will be three time periods available during the day in which various workshops will be offered. Reading sessions and subject specific sessions will be offered into three time periods. We are able to offer 6 hours of Act 48 credit. Registration information and forms will be on the District 7 website this summer, as we finalize presenters and times.
Please note that registration will open at 7:45 AM and that the first two workshops will begin at 8:30 AM and 9:45 AM, to be followed by the General Session. Attendees must have registered by 8:20 to receive the full 6 hours of ACT 48 credit. The day ends at 3:30 PM.
PMEA will issue 6 inservice hours for this Professional Development Day. Participants will be required to verify attendance before the opening session and at the conclusion of the day. Each will also be asked to complete two evaluation forms – one for Act 48 completion and one for District 7 Planning pertaining to the individual sessions attended.
Pre-registration is very important for determining room assignments, reading packets and contracting the food. Therefore, we are asking that individual teachers submit both their registration form and payment, requesting school districts reimburse them directly, if such reimbursement is possible. During registration we will have coffee and pastries available, so come early. Lunch will be provided in the school cafeteria by the school food service.
Send your registration form and individual check (no cash can be accepted) made payable to “PMEA District 7” to Mark Romig, 56 West Oakwood Drive, Carlisle, PA 17015. The deadline for submitting registration is September 26, 2008. If you would like a receipt for reimbursement purposes, you may include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your registration or ask that the form be made available at the registration desk. There will be no opportunity to register the day of the conference. Registration fees will not be returnable to individuals who do not attend on October 13. Questions may be directed to mnr@smsd.us.I would like to express my thanks to the following District 7 officers who are offering their assistance in planning this professional development day: Eric Dundore, Marie Weber, Mark Romig and our Higher Education Representative, Dr. Grace Muzzo of York College.
